Choosing retail analytics software: an honest buyer's guide
We sell retail analytics software, so read this with that fact in view. Here is the buying advice we would give a friend: the four questions that separate tools that change decisions from tools that decorate Mondays — and when the honest answer is a spreadsheet.

Declaring the interest up front: Kauzio is retail analytics software, so we are not neutral. What we can be is honest about how we would buy in this category — including when we would not.
When a spreadsheet is genuinely the right answer
If you run one location, stock a small range, and have the discipline to check the same handful of numbers weekly, a spreadsheet fed by till exports is legitimate. The software case begins where human attention runs out: too many products to watch, patterns across channels, customer rhythms no one has time to track, and the slow drifts that weekly eyeballing misses. Buy software to expand attention, not to decorate it.
The four questions that sort the category
"Show me a decision, not a dashboard." In the demo, make them walk from a real signal to a specific recommended action with reasoning attached. Tools that answer with more charts are reporting tools — fine, but priced accordingly. The gap between seeing and deciding is where dashboards quietly cost you.
"What does it do with MY data on day one?" Demo data always sings. Insist on seeing your own messy export loaded — how it handles your duplicate SKUs and gap months tells you more than any feature list.
"Where is the accuracy scorecard?" Any tool that predicts — demand, stockouts, churn — owes you its track record, misses included. This is the question we built our whole product around, so yes, we would say that; ask it anyway, of everyone, including us.
"What happens when I stop paying?" Your data's exit path, in writing, before entry.
Price against the decision, not the licence
The honest sum: one prevented over-order, one caught stockout on an A item, one regular kept — versus the monthly fee. A tool that cannot plausibly clear that bar on your numbers is expensive at any price. One that clears it monthly is cheap at most prices. That is the test we ask people to hold Kauzio to — a free tier and a calculator against your own figures, not our promises.
